St Mary's Shalford Good Neighbours
The Good Neighbours Scheme is based in St Mary's and involves about 50 Good Neighbours who act as a liaison between the church and the parish generally. Their aims are two-fold. First, to welcome all newcomers into the parish, to give them information and advice about local services and parish organisations, and generally to help them to settle into the area. “Welcome Sundays” are held at St Mary"s twice a year, when it is hoped that all newcomers, whether churchgoers (of any denomination) or non-churchgoers, will come and meet other newcomers as well as long-standing residents. The second objective is to be aware of, and try to help anyone who is sick or troubled and needs help. To this end Good Neighbours work closely with the Care Group (contact Sheila Pickering (568431)), who help by visiting the sick and elderly, and assist with shopping for the housebound.
